Tyre Choices
So you want to change a new set of wheels. Do some googling, ask your friends, survey at shops, and finally you're ready to make a purchase.
Then it struck you, which tyre is the best? Should you go for expensive one or something moderate?
How about ride quality? Which tyre gives you the best comfort (yes type of tyres play important part too)? Does it makes too much cabin noise?
Lets try adding info here so we can make reference whenever we wanted to buy new ones. Of course try to include details such as prices and availability. Also try not to include performance tyres as they tend to wear faster than normal tyres, some of them are semi-slick and can be a little suspect on wet conditions.
Just to be clear, I'm no tyre expert. This thread is for us to share our past experience so we can make better judgement when purchasing that new set of tyres.
Cheers.

Re: Tyre Choices
I'll start first:
Yokohama A-Drive 205/45/17 - RM 280++ P/U (June 2011). Widely available.
The good:
- Stong sidewall
- Quieter~!
- Good all round performance, nothing spectacular though
- Cheap
The bad
- Soft compound
- Wears faster

Re: Tyre Choices
Eagle F1 Directional 5 - 215/40/17 - I think the price is a nearing 400. Got it when changing my rims, so couldn't get the exact price. But from the shop's database they priced it at RM360. I could be wrong.
Really grippy around Bukit Putus. Really good wet grip.
For a thin tyre, it is actually quite good in the noise department. Put in Nitrogen gas last few days and it got better.
My advice is spend more on tyres. They are very important. Even my previous ride uses Michelin PS3.

Re: Tyre Choices
Continential tyre that comes stock with the car is also a good tyre. Look for a bigger digits on the tread wear on the tyre sidewall if you want it to last longer.

Keep the ball rolling, gj guys.
Cheap here is a relative term. The goal here is to find the best tyre in terms of cost vs benefit, balance is key. Sometimes we're strapped for cash, so getting the best value is essential. But keep the discussion rolling, you never know what others might have.

For those who want it balance, go for Michelin PP2... Well perform in dry, kinda good in wet.. Silent, thick wall and comfort ride. Tyre won't wear out too much!

Re: Tyre Choices
If you guy wanted to buy high quality tyre but lower price, NEVER ever try to buy from Jalan Kapar, Klang...
My fren is a boss there, i did buy from him for company van used (cheap tyre)... Comment from him, Klang tyre like Advan, Falken, Goodyear, Bridgestone & ETC are class "C" tyres. Which mean these tyre are non good stuff just like shirt in The REJECT SHOP, either the steel lining problem, tyre thread non parallel, side wall trend to crack & etc.
Pls check the TYRES manufacturing DATE as well, dun be CON

I always thought michelins are soft compound tyres, thus wears easily. Good to know. The price? You forgot to mention that.sfunglee wrote:spymonkey wrote:Keep the ball rolling, gj guys.

Yup it will be soft, if you get Michelin made in Euro, indeed for Tropica country the best Michelin tyres are from Indonesia & The Phillipines

price is a sensitive thing i guess but generally we will be talking about tyre sizes that fit the fifo, so it won't be supercar tyre prices.
i'm happy to hear about all kinds of tyres that fit the fifo standard specs and forgo price discussion. even if someone talks about non-standard sizes, they probably can afford it in the first place.
furthermore since tyre prices are not static, it's sufficient to talk about how good the tyre is to a user.
we can check on the current prices ourselves if we're really interested.

Re: Tyre Choices
Price is not sensitive thing. In fact it is one of the reasons to decide when making purchases, whether you can afford it or not. After all we all would like to get best value we can get.
It's true tyre prices are not static, but that goes to all the other stuff we buy anyway.

Re: Tyre Choices
If u wanna be safe...
Estimation only : (based on my personal view)
Stock tyre (Conti) = RM 220~240
Cheaper Tyre (Durun / Silverstone) = RM 185~200
Good Tyre (Goodyear / Michellin) = RM 240~280
Performance Tyre (Falken FK/Pirelli Zero/Goodyear F1) = beyond RM320

Re: Tyre Choices
Just got myself Hankook Ventus V12 EVO 205/45R16 tyres on aftermarket 16x7 rims.Wanted to use the ori rims but the stock 16x6 rims are below the min recommended width for the tyres I wanted. As for the new Hankook donut, noise and comfort level is almost similar to the stock CPC2 195/50R16 but the Hankook's dry/wet performance and handling is much better. Quite satisfied with the new look and improved handling.
