Fiesta Transmission
Hi guys, I have a question for those who already had their cars with them for quite sometime and had clock in a reasonable amount of mileage. When accelerating from a standstill, does the tachometer revs all the way up to 3000-3200 rpm? I'm talking about a fairly gentle acceleration as my car has yet to pass 300km in mileage. The other thing is when I'm in a slow moving traffic and can't accelerate smoothly through the gears and had to lift off the gas pedal, it sorts of feels jerky like how u would if u are driving a manual car in first gear and suddenly encounters traffic and had to lift off your gas pedal. Just wondering if the car behaves in such a way because it has a dual clutch transmission instead of a normal torque converter or the gear components are still new or if it is just simply abnormal?

Re: Fiesta Transmission
i am feeling it also...
makes u feel like u r not a good driver driving a manual...
i even hear kraaaaaaaaaaaaaak krak and the car jerks when i gently accelerate from stand still.
i can even make the sound louder if i want it to when i step on the accelerator a bit more...
very irritating

Re: Fiesta Transmission
2 questions there:
- high rpm from the start.
= not sure. maybe need to be MORE gentle. don't know.
- jerky.
= some say, it'll disappear with high mileage. me personally, ...if u said like unskilled manual driver, never happened to me, since 1st day got my SEDAN fofi. are you Sukan Fofi?

Re: Fiesta Transmission
u have to adjust urself. the dual clutch usually takes around 3k rpm to get the 1st gear changed into 2nd. what i do is i press the accelerator a lil harder to rev it up till u feel the gear changes to 2nd and u can slowly pull back your leg but not totally release the accelerator pedal so u won't feel the jerk. practice makes perfect

The transmission is very silent. Suggests you take it back to check if the sound persist.
As to the jerking, yes it is annoying, especially from 1st to 2nd.
It is worse when I try to accelerate as gently as possible so the change occurs at 2800 rpm.To induce the change, I lift off the throttle ever so slightly as it approaches 2800, and it will upshift.
However, if you drive with normal accleration so that it upshifts at 3,00-3,500 rpm, there is very minimal jerk.

Re: Fiesta Transmission
in stop and go traffic, i suggest u to get use to L gear. it will minimise jerking n avoiding gear hunting.

Fresh drive jerking, now I try my best to balance my foot ,to avoid the jerking. Now Improve a lot. Some times the foot balance depends ,not every driver same.

Re: Fiesta Transmission
Must always remember this is a dual clutch manual with electronic shifts, not a torque converter.
Will never be as seamless but definitely more responsive to pedal input.

Re: Fiesta Transmission
will the 1.4 manual transmission be a good buy? as in performance, handling & stability? i realised that the max power & torque r very much lower if were to compare to the 1.6sports. will the performance be affected? bcz i did thought of getting the manual specs and modify the rims & tyres to bigger ones, as well as changing the coil spring for better stability. it is just the performance which im considering of, whether to get the auto sports?

Re: Fiesta Transmission
to me, i'm used to it driving it already. so i won't really feel jerky unless during a very "kan cheong" parking moment.

i know exactly what u mean
and when it upshit (that is the time u can hear the kraking sound)
wonder how come nobody bothers about it???
hmm...

There is no sound when it upshifts, AFAIK.

Do you guy hear transmission sort of like knocking noise during 1st to 2nd shifting when the car is started for 1st time in the day?

Nope. Only the purring of the engine can be heard when accelerating from standstill.

Re: Fiesta Transmission
So for those with the transmission issue, have you brought your car back to SDAC or SCs ? What did they say ? Did they managed to fix the problem ? Did they ack the post by Alper and that there is a technical bulletin in Ford USA for terminal grounding and software fix ?

Re: Fiesta Transmission
I have just placed an order for Fiesta but having read about the issues on transmission, I am comtemplating to cancel my order. 3 areas of concern:
1) I believe the new fiestas should have the software updated - but is this the true root cause or is there an underlying design issue with this gearbox?
2) The 1st to 2nd gear shift happened at high rpm 3k - is this normal? How can we have fuel saving with such high rpm change?
3) Noisy gearbox - is this a wide spread issue?

Re: Fiesta Transmission
i'm not sure whether the technicians in sdac knows how to update the software/firmware of the transmission or not, but so far i had no serious issue on this dual clutch transmission.
fofi might be quite rev-happy but it just goes into high rpm for split seconds before it changes gear, won't really affect the fuel consumption much. if you are patient enough to be light footed, u can actually control it till 2.5k rpm from 1st to 2nd gear.
just reviewing from ppl's words are not enough. you gotta test drive it yourself to feel it

Re: Fiesta Transmission
Thanks. I test drove the car already but I did not notice any problem with the transmission, perhaps I did not really put much attention to it then. I will arrange for another test drive. However I did notice then the hi-rpm sound of the engine during pick up.

Re: Fiesta Transmission
So far no issues from my FoFi gearbox. Need to be gentle with the accelerator during the "stop and go" jam. I have managed to achieve gear change 1st to 2nd at 2,000 RPM. But sometimes the gear tend to drag a little in the basement car park.
And as for real high rev acceleration, I have pushed it to the red line too. I think it is a matter of getting used to it and controlling it. I feel that the gearshift is something that you can control. I'm still trying to master it. My fuel comsumption is 460km per full tank.

Re: Fiesta Transmission
aver2727 and dershyong,
When you say not smooth/drag, is there a sound with it? Or just jerking? Mine has a sound but only sometimes (depending on what, not sure). But I notice it more after I go through bumps. Sound very rough (dont know how to explain) between the 1st and 2nd gear. On highways, no problem. Smooth.
Went to check yesterday, but waited for 2 hours without being attended to, even with appointment made. But that's different issuelah right.....
So now haven't checked, and I have decided to hentam sajalah. If rosak I just called them to tow the car (towed once already within first 2 weeks, battery/starter problem).
Please suggest a good Ford Service Centre.
