Ron 97 Petrol Up 20 Sen Tomorrow

Guys, just happen to got this piece of news, Ron 97 petrol up 20 sen to RM2.70/litre. Got the source from Malaysian Insider. For those who are still using Ron 97, you might want to fill up now.

I wonder if this means 2-3 months from now RON95 will go up.. =P

Hello guys. How much petrol do you guys use a year? The last time I filed my taxes, my fuel consumption is about 2800L-3000L. That time, I think RON97 around 1.90.
If for Fiesta using RON95 @ RM1.90. Typical usage of 45L/week x 52 x RM1.90 = RM4,446.00
Anyway my point is, going out to pump full won't save you much, unless you have 2500L tank underneath your house to hedge the petrol. Then lots of $$$.

Well, you have to pump gas anyway. Why not?

The increase of RM 0.20 per liter is equal to only RM 8.40 for a 42 liter tank. If you have a near empty tank, then it still might be worthwhile to fill up for that one-off savings of RM 8.40. Other than that, no point in doing so since you might end up wasting more fuel than what you save by beating the deadline. Furthermore, the savings is not material enough to warrant wasting time at the petrol station. You are better off hypermiling and going lightfooted if you want to save RM 8.40.

That said, the Fiesta runs perfectly fine on RON95 which has yet to see any increase, so no worries. Only concern would be price of goods but I think that is more closely tied to diesel prices rather than RON97 petrol.

For me I still stick to 95. No point using 97 coz I'm not driving a car with a high compression ratio engine. It's just the power of advertisement convincing users to be loyal to 97 especially with certain red fire breathing brand

If RON 97 and RON 95 were to be left 100% to market forces, will we be able to see something like this?

for sure fuel price will go up after the election in sarawak 16th april 2011.......

That would depend on how much higher crude oil prices will go up. Spike up too much, RON95 will definitely be revised upwards (regardless of whether it is before or after elections).

We can only hope for some sort of financial bad news that will bring crude oil prices down (eg. another subprime crisis, sudden spike in US unemployment rate or US going into recession). There's too much speculating activity going on in the crude oil futures just like how it was up till the subprime crisis that hit the US. The weak USD is not helping either since it makes it cheaper for speculators to enter the crude oil futures market.

Just be glad our fuel still hovers around RM2 (R97 wont count, not subsidised). In Thailand it's like RM 3.80 per litre and that's R95.
