Hello fellow FoFi owners, on the 12th of November 2011, I went for a short trip to Istanbul (4 days total) with my family and friends. So I thought it would be nice to share some pics of Turkey and of course pics of Turkish Fiesta. Btw it's winter, temp is around 8-7 deg avg, dont be fooled with all those sunlight, lol.

Day 1 and 2, we went to bursa right after arrival. A quick rundown, Bursa was the old capital of Turkey, now serve as its heavy industry area. We went to visit the Old Bazaar and the Grey Mosque.

Turkish Coffee, the ultimate coffee. The thing is just super kaw, one sip and it'll zap your brain. Good way to start your day.

Inside the Old Bazaar, on the right is the courtyard, a good place to drink turkish coffee. Some added info Bursa is famous for its silk, thus the old bazaar sells mostly silk. There are some extension to the old bazaar which sells jewelries, I never had the time to explore them though.

Finally a Turkish fiesta, I mostly found focuses and mondeos though. Right after this came along a Fiesta Taxi in bright yellow. I couldnt get the chance to snap a pic though.

That's it for day 1. Stay tuned for more.

Day 2

Still in bursa, this day we were to visit the Grey Mosque and Five Sultans Tomb. After that off to Istanbul.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Dome inside the Grey Mosque. Muslims and non-muslims alike are allowed to go inside and take pictures. But need to cover themselves. So no shorts and the ladies must wear scarf to cover their heads. Shoes must be taken off.

Still inside the Grey Mosque.

A bursa kitten, lol.

Lunchtime in Bursa~!! This is called Iskandar (Alexander in english) Kebab. Quite famous. It is slices of beef or lamb served in tomato sauce on top of pieces of bread (like nan bread). Finished with butter sauce. Very delicious.

Another fiesta in bursa, while I was snapping this pic another Fiesta Taxi came passing by. Damn. Btw most fiestas here are 1.4 Diesel cars. Petrol are very expensive here, about 3.5 Lira which translate at about RM 7.00 per litre~!!! So diesel cars are very popular here.

On the way back to Istanbul via the sea of marmara. Marmara means marble in Turkish. The whole area is rich with marbles hence its name.

We stayed in Taksim/Taxim square in Istanbul. On Day 3 we were to visit the Blue Mosque, the icon of Istanbul.

Day 3

For today, Topkapi Palace Museum, Blue Mosque, and Basilica Cistern were the main agenda. These sites are located near to each other within walking distance. That being said, you still need some time to fully explore them. Unfortunately at the Topkapi, photography is prohibited because of lots of very valuable stuff (for example Moses' Cane aka Tongkat Nabi Musa is on display here).

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Basilica Cistern, it was very dark in here, fortunately I have my DSLR.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

On more picture to show you how dark it is.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Inside the blue mosque, as the name suggest. Its interior is covered with blue tiles. On the outside it's still the same color as any old structure. This place is huge (for the lack of word lol), and like the Grey Mosque non-muslims are allowed to enter the mosque. Be aware that your visiting time might cut short because of praying time. AFAIK the mosque is closed for visiting on friday for friday prayer.

Blue mosque courtyard.

Random images lol. This is Turkish carpet/rugs, I particularly like its pattern and color but unfortunately my wallet disagrees. This one costs about USD 2500 and this is the cheapest one (on that shop).

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

On the way back to hotel, we are to visit the Spice Bazaar. They sell spices here, obviously lol. But you might be interested with Turkish Delights which is sold here, and in high quality. Some are hand made in store and some are purchased from outside. Another interesting stuff for the guys to indulge in is the "turkish viagra". lol. There are a lot of tourist came here everyday, so its no surprise they know a lot of languages. Some can speak mandarin fluently, but mostly recognize malaysian from a mile away and can speak some malay too!

End of day three. Day 4 invites us to Hagia Sofea/Ayasofia and the Grand Bazaar.

Last day of the trip.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Today we visit the Hagia Sofea or in local tongue, Ayasofia. Hagia Sofea means Holy Wisdom in Latin, to which Jesus Christ was referred to in ancient times. It is unique because it served as a church and later converted to a mosque. So you will see Christian decoration goes hand in hand with Islamic decoration. Nothing like it in this world.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

View from second floor.

Ayasofia cat....hehe.

Unfortunately my battery ran out. So no pics in the Grand Bazaar. I'm a sad panda Neutral

Last night in Istanbul, I spent my remaining Liras at Taksim Square on kebabs and light munchies. This is the supposedly the top kebab shop in Istanbul, but due to misdirection I went in to the shop next to it lol. The shop is on the right.

Some pics of turkish fiestas on the way to the airport.

That's it, I hope you enjoyed looking at this photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. There were literally hundreds of photo taken but I just select a few of them. I enjoyed this trip very much and if you have the time, I highly recommend Istanbul as your choice of destination.

Nice pictures... I wonder how the Diesel Fiesta is like in term of performance?

Artoo, generally diesel cars are designed for economy thus not having very good performance. Except those with turbos, like Focus TDCI.

I'll try to update day 3 and 4 when I have the time.

Thanks for reading. Very Happy

Spymonkey, Diesel Ford Fiestas are fitted with either 1.4 or 1.6 Duratorq TDCi Engines. The 1.6 Duratorq TDCi is said to outperform the Toyota Prius. That's why I wonder if it performs like a mini Ford Focus.

That's why the questions in the first place Smile I can't remember where I read before that Fiesta TDCi outperforms the Prius... and in what term... It's probably in terms of being "Green"... The Econetics Fiesta was amongst the top green cars...
Anyway, as I observed from the road, the Prius seems quite good in acceleration...
I used to never think diesel engines were anything related to performance... but recent years with more and more European performance biased car, i.e. BMW, VW...etc, fitted with Diesel made me wonder if the Diesel are in fact catching up in terms of performance.

They are catching up with performance. On newer cars that is. Also type of diesel they use is different. They are using Euro 4 now, while we are still using Euro 2M (euro 2 modified for malaysian climate). We are to implement Euro 4M in 5 years time, I think by that time some cool turbo diesel cars will make it to our market.

Day 3 and 4 updated.

I'm fully confident when euro 4M diesel is implemented. Diesel cars will be very popular here in Malaysia.
