Service Intervals

Post by Tristan on 2011-03-15, 8:45 pm

Hi guys, has anyone service their cars yet? From the info which I get from one of the guys at their PJ branch, the first service for us is recommended at 10,000km as according to them, our cars coming in from Rayong only spend a very short time transiting in the port and at the various showrooms. As such the engine oil are all still pretty new. Anyone heard anything different?

1000k? My car already pass that mark. I'm just wondering is it true newer generation engines do not require such a short service intervals? We are used to service intervals at 5000km with older cars but I think I remember someone mentioning in an older post that the air filter requires a much shorter interval than 10,000km.

Based on my experience...

1K oil change - is a must when there's no free maintenance package for the ride. If there's free 3 year maintenance package like what we have, no oil change for 1K km.

5K oil change - not really required as the type of oil that is used is either semi/fully synthetic and can last for 10K km but you might want to change the oil filter and top up the oil before 10K interval.

10K service - normal service with oil change and such.

40K service - major service done here.

I will still change the oil and filter at the 1K service reason being there will be very fine metallic grit in the oil and filter.
No doubt modern engines are manufactured to very fine levels of tolerances but I am kiasu, I'd rather spend that few hundred ringgit to ensure there is clean oil.
Thereafter, I will stick with the recommended intervals.

Klimal, so you've sent your car to Ford PJ for service at 1k? Besides the engine oil, what else do they do? Is it included in the free maintenance?

i've call them and ask. they'll change your engine oil and oil filter. beside that, they'll do the service check to see if there is anything need to be replace/tighten/clean or not.

I have only done ~800km since getting my car exactly 31 days ago Embarassed
So I have yet to send for the 1K service, which I definitely intend to do.
It is hardly used except on week-ends.
Most days i ride to work.

The LEFT rear fog lamp is a dummy.
Only the right side works.
It is standard on European cars.

Really, luckily you tell me Klimal. I was wondering if there is water seepage into my left rear fog lamp causing it to malfunction.

Yup, definitely. I always thought that it is better to buy a car which was design with conquering Europe in mind as their typical B-segment car is usually loaded with specs. A good example is the upcoming Kia Rio. On the other hand a car like Vios IMHO is to cater for the ASEAN market where the regional manufacturers can afford to sell something like the new Vios without a new engine and minimall features at cut throat prices.

if they would really test it for real, they'll know. but since if you are changing it after 2k km, and running for another 8k km. i think the engine oil will turn color and is hard for them to judge base on just by looking at it.

but when you are changing it, please ensure that your screw is screwed according to their factory marking (if there is). this is also how they know if you touched before or not before your 1st service.
